Orange Coast needed a victory last Friday to clinch a playoff berth, and it was Gillis who took over to make sure it happened.
Gillis, the daughter of former Orange Coast men’s basketball Coach Tandy Gillis, had 22 kills and seven blocks as OCC beat Fullerton, 15-9, 16-14, 15-10.
Gillis, an All-Orange Empire Conference pick as a freshman, leads OCC in kills this season with 145. She also leads the Orange Empire Conference in aces with 33.
Other top performers:
Joan Maurer, who scored 27 points and had five assists as Cypress lost to Los Angeles Pierce, 72-68.
Yumi Yamazaki, who had 14 kills, 19 assists and five blocks as the Saddleback volleyball team upset Riverside, 15-13, 2-15, 4-15, 15-11, 15-10.
