SAN DIEGO : Brothers Rescued After Boat Sinks
- Share via
For the second time in two days, the U.S. Coast Guard rescued a pair of brothers from the Pacific Ocean after their boat capsized.
Greg and Charlie Valentine said their 51-foot sailboat struck something at 2:30 a.m. Saturday and sank in 10 minutes. The brothers crawled into a dinghy 15 miles west of La Jolla and waited until a Coast Guard helicopter and 41-foot utility boat responded to the brothers’ distress call after using flares and searchlight.
The Coast Guard lowered a swimmer from a helicopter into the water, who rescued the brothers. The Valentines were hoisted into the helicopter and were not injured.
Rescue workers found no traces of the boat or the object it hit.
