DIAMOND JIM: After entertaining trade offers for pitcher Jim Abbott for months, the Angels head to baseball’s annual winter meetings in Louisville, Ky., this weekend with no deals on the horizon. . . . “I’m not in a hurry to trade Jim at all, but I am listening,” says Whitey Herzog, the team’s senior vice president for player personnel. “It’s not like we have to trade him. It’s a situation we’ve got to weigh very seriously.” . . . The Angels hope to fortify their offense, which was the American League’s worst in 1992.
