Westwood : Park Now Is Part of L.A.

It’s official: Westwood Park is now in Los Angeles.

The Los Angeles City Council approved annexation of the park from the county last month, thus ending jurisdictional confusion over the park, which is south of the Federal Building in Westwood.

City Councilman Zev Yaroslavsky, who sponsored the annexation legislation, said confusion arose because the park was owned and operated by the city but was technically under county jurisdiction because it was in an unincorporated area.

“We had a situation where the city of Los Angeles owned the park, but the Los Angeles Police Department, which services the entire surrounding area, didn’t have jurisdiction,” Yaroslavsky said in a prepared statement. “The park was policed by the Sheriff’s Department’s West Hollywood or Marina del Rey substation.”

The Little League baseball field next to the park was included in the annexation.
