Cal State Northridge freshman Heather Ballard placed seventh in the 400-yard individual medley in 4 minutes 34.47 seconds Friday night in the Speedo Collegiate Cup West at Belmont Plaza Pool in Long Beach.
In the morning preliminaries, she swam a season-best 4:31.67.
Ballard and Northern Arizona’s April Diez were the only women swimmers from a school other than California, UCLA or USC to make the championship finals Friday.
Ballard also swam the anchor leg of the Matadors’ 800 freestyle relay team that placed fourth in 7:56.05. Nicole Hudson, Denise Lamoureaux and Jill Ogden preceded Ballard.
