Lauraine Brekke-Esparza is the new city manager of Del Mar, Mayor Rod Franklin announced Monday.
Brekke-Esparza, 45, has served as assistant city manager for 6 1/2 years in Ventura, where she oversaw labor negotiations, personnel, the budget and public relations.
Prior to her Ventura post, Brekke-Esparza was executive director for the 9-member Seattle City Council as well as the chief administrative officer for King County, which encompasses the Seattle metropolitan area.
Brekke-Esparza will take over the Del Mar position from Gloria Curry, who retired Monday after 25 years’ service as city manager of the 4,860-population town. She was chosen from a field of 159 candidates, Franklin said.
Brekke-Esparza “brings a depth of administrative as well as analytical experience to this position,” Franklin said.
