OUTLOOK
The Mustangs are ranked preseason No. 3 in the county. Poulos, Barnes and Kaull are back from last year’s team that won the Southern Section II-A title and reached the regional semifinals. But it’s three transfers--Uhl, White and Moore--that have county coaches buzzing about this team. White, a transfer from Cambridge, Md., is an outstanding shooting guard whom Wulf is bringing along slowly. “He’s going to be very good,” Wulf said. “But he’s still learning the system.” Moore, one of the county’s better front-court players, transferred from Capistrano Valley, where he was a part-time starter last season. Uhl, a football player, transferred from Mater Dei, where he played junior varsity basketball last season. Wulf is preaching patience to his players. Barnes and Cervantes will get a late start because of football, and the three transfers need time to settle in. “We won’t be clicking until mid-December,” he said. “We should be ready to go by league.” League coaches picked Trabuco Hills as the favorite. Wulf also strengthened his coaching staff with another transfer--Greg Haskell, former Savanna coach and now a Mustang assistant.
