Oaths, Scouts and God: When a Pledge of Allegiance Is Painful
- Share via
Dianne Klein wrote a column drawing attention to the efforts of those attacking the Scouts’ basic precepts expressed in their oath and in the Pledge of Allegiance, also, by inference, since it too mentions the dreaded word “God.”
Boy Scouts have been a force for good in this country for many generations. The Girl Scouts too, have brought ideals, activities, patriotic efforts and adventures in nature to thousands of young people. Both organizations have helped young people to lead richer fuller lives and grow up with added skills.
The Klein article belittles and satirizes sincere people trying to defend the right to continue to exist on the moral pillars upon which the Scout organizations were founded.
