ROUNDUP : Oxnard Fades Against Long Beach in Cypress Tournament Final
- Share via
Oxnard College, which used a last-second basket to reach the championship game of the Cypress tournament, was in need of much more in a 90-81 loss to Long Beach City on Saturday night in the final at Cypress College.
The Condors had beaten Cypress, 79-78, in Friday’s semifinal on a driving layup by Lance Fay with one second left.
But things didn’t go as well against Long Beach, although Oxnard did lead at the half, 48-42.
Oxnard extended the lead to 52-42 after baskets by Tony Ziuraitis and Marlowe Durmiendo in the first minute of the second half, but momentum soon swung Long Beach’s way. The Vikings (15-3) went on a 19-2 run and led, 61-54, when Oxnard called a timeout with 14 minutes 6 seconds to play.
Jamie Davis, the tournament’s most valuable player, had 22 points for Long Beach. Fay had 22 points and Steve Amar 16 for Oxnard.
