Weekend Box Office : ‘A Few Good Men’ Courts Success
- Share via
“A Few Good Men” marched at the head of the column for a second weekend, while the family movies “Aladdin” and “Home Alone 2: Lost in New York” continued to draw big audiences after several weeks in release. But three films opened to grosses that many considered disappointing for movies that bill major names: Mel Gibson in “Forever Young,” Robin Williams in “Toys” and Steve Martin in “Leap of Faith.” With school vacations under way and Christmas festivities soon to be a thing of the past, Hollywood is expecting this weekend and next week to be lucrative days.
* “The Crying Game,” an offbeat drama from director Neal Jordan, is finding growing audiences in the major cities. Also in limited run, “Used People,” from 20th Century Fox, drew a good $51,955 in two theaters in three days, and will expand slowly. The Festival Hong Kong at the Nuart Theatre in West Los Angeles grossed $15,000 in its first five days, selling out showings of “The Actress” and several Jackie Chan action pictures.
