SOCCER ROUNDUP : Los Alamitos Wins Title with Late Goal

Mandy Wheeler scored the game-winner with one minute remaining to lift the Los Alamitos girls’ soccer team to a 2-1 victory over Long Beach Poly in the championship game of the Cerritos tournament Monday night.
Liz Willemse scored the other goal for Los Alamitos (7-1-2).
Goalkeeper Marcie Barton made 20 saves for Long Beach Poly (6-2-2).
In the seventh-place game:
Mater Dei 3, Dana Hills JV 0--Chrissy Whalen and Katie Ward scored in the first half and Teresa Buechler added a goal in the second half for Mater Dei (5-3-2).
In the Hacienda Heights Wilson tournament:
Chino Don Lugo 1, Rosary 0--Goalkeeper Robyn Leonhardt made 12 saves but gave up a goal to tournament MVP Jennifer Patterson as Don Lugo beat Rosary (4-3-1) in the championship game.
In nonleague girls’ soccer:
Huntington Beach 2, Trabuco Hills 1--Kelli Reynolds and Eileen Dunaway each scored for Huntington Beach (4-2-1).
In the South Torrance boys’ tournament:
Santa Margarita 4, South Torrance 0--Seth George scored Santa Margarita’s final goal with three minutes left in the semifinal game. Jeff Maguire, Kevin Cimini and Raphel Barragan each scored for Santa Margarita (6-0) earlier in the half. South Torrance is 6-3-3.
Santa Margarita plays Orange at 3 p.m. today for the title.
Santa Margarita had tied Pasadena Muir, 2-2, in the quarterfinal match earlier Monday and advanced on penalty kicks, 5-4.
Goalkeeper Matt Reis secured the victory for Santa Margarita with a save on a penalty kick by Chad Reist. Sergio Godoy made Santa Margarita’s final penalty kick. Barragan and George scored for Santa Margarita during regulation play.
Orange 3, Santa Ana Valley 1--Neal Becerra, Victor Lopez and Marcelo Sandoval scored for Orange (6-1-3) in a semifinal game.
Orange moved into the semifinals with a 3-1 victory over Santa Monica earlier Monday. Mike Band had two goals and Robert Rodriguez had the other for Orange.
Santa Ana Valley 3, Santa Ana 2--Francisco Islas scored two goals and teammate Carlos Bergara scored one for Santa Ana Valley (5-0-1) in the quarterfinal round. Jose-Luis Ruiz had 10 saves for Santa Ana Valley. George Perez and Armando Hernandez each had one goal for Santa Ana (4-1-1).
In the Hacienda Heights Wilson tournament:
Capistrano Valley 5, Monrovia 0--Chris Tullar scored two goals, and John Brull, Gary Berry and Jeremy James each had one for Capistrano Valley (5-3-2).
In the Riverside Poly tournament:
Canyon 2, Riverside Arlington 1--Jamie Henike and Steve Maynard scored goals for Canyon (5-1-3) in the semifinal match.
In an earlier quarterfinal, goalkeeper Aaron Harries made seven saves to lead Canyon past Apple Valley, 4-3, on penalty kicks. The teams had finished regulation tied, 0-0.
Mater Dei 2, Riverside Poly 2 (Mater Dei advances on penalty kicks)--Brandon Smallwood and Robert Andrade scored to key a second-half rally for Mater Dei (5-0-3), which advanced to the final on penalty kicks, 4-3. Earlier, Mater Dei beat Upland, 1-0.
Marina 3, Apple Valley River 0--Goalkeeper Willie Freker made two saves to help Marina (3-3-2) stay alive in the consolation bracket. Earlier, Marina lost on penalty kicks to Riverside Arlington.
In nonleague boys’ soccer:
San Clemente 2, Laguna Beach 0--Mike Poirier and Miklos Rosas scored goals and goalkeeper Mario Garcia made three saves to lead San Clemente (4-1-2) past Laguna Beach (4-2-2).
