The expansion Tampa Bay Lightning lost another game Tuesday night. But they earned another admirer.
This time it was Brian Sutter, coach of the Boston Bruins, whose team struggled for a 5-3 victory at Boston.
“They made it tough on you,” Sutter said of the Lightning, which had won four of its last five games before Tuesday. “I told the guys after the second period, it’s a heck of an expansion team because they check, they check, and they check.”
Brent Ashton and Ted Donato scored second-period goals, helping the Bruins overcome two goals by Brian Bradley.
Detroit 4, Toronto 4--Tim Cheveldae held off Toronto’s power play over the final 2:37 of overtime at Detroit as the Red Wings survived despite being outshot, 36-33.
Minnesota 2, St. Louis 2--Curtis Joseph was beaten by Russ Courtnall’s 75-foot slap shot with 6:41 left in regulation at Bloomington as the North Stars rallied for the tie.
