OUTLOOK
The Sailors, the consensus choice of the Sea View coaches to win the league title, have four starters and a key reserve back from a team that would have won a share of the title if not for a loss to Tustin in the regular-season finale. Newport Harbor gave Brea-Olinda its toughest test of the Southern Section Division III-AA playoffs before losing, 63-50, in the semifinals. Jakosky says the goal this year is to do even better. “This is our fourth year, and this is the first year that we’ve had a real solid 11 kids, which means it’s the first time we’ve been able to have great practices,” Jakosky said. “It’s the first time as coach that if my older kids aren’t performing as expected I can put a sophomore in and let her go.” Ross must handle most of the offensive load, and Heads, a defensive specialist, has moved to point guard. The Sailors have been tested by an early season schedule that includes such teams as Cerritos Gahr, Costa Mesa, Dana Hills and Ocean View. “I see this as a real growing year with the potential to do some great things,” Jakosky said.
