OUTLOOK
The majority of the league’s coaches expect the Oilers to provide the strongest competition for Marina, and that’s no surprise. Huntington Beach returns the league’s most valuable player in Walker, who averaged 18.3 points and 13.1 rebounds last season. Walker is versatile and able to score inside or outside, which should open things up for returning guard Itow, who averaged 14 points and nine assists last year and provides the Oilers with a top three-point threat. The Oilers also have experience and depth back. Among those expected to contribute heavily are Featherstone, Geraci, Schnacker, Link, Noffsinger and Adam. Huntington Beach isn’t especially tall, but the Oilers prepared for this season in the summer against good competition, and Bartlett expects Huntington Beach to benefit from that level of play. “We played tough teams in the summer and tough teams before league,” Bartlett said. “We should be ready for the level of play in league.”
