‘Life’s’ Line Bears Repeating

Regarding the letter from the Garvin Family (Talkback, Dec. 13). The story line in “Life Goes On” (ABC) about a heterosexual teen-ager who is HIV-positive, on a show whose demographics reach teens, is a major breakthrough. The character Jessie does not whine, leads an active life and is lucky enough to have the character Becca as a devoted girlfriend.
This is possibly the most positive portrayal of a person with the virus on television. The obvious message to all viewers is that this can happen to anyone, and unfortunately AIDS does indeed “go on.”
