Excess Pets Need Homes
Seeing that Ventura County is forced to annually euthanize thousands of healthy puppies and dogs due to pet overpopulation, I found it most distressing that you offered local breeders what basically amounts to photo advertising in “A Furry Christmas” on Dec. 21.
If residents of our county want to adopt any companion animal, the compassionate choice can only be the local shelters or the Humane Society. Animals at these facilities are literally living on borrowed time--if they cannot be placed, the dilemma of too many animals/too few homes leads to their inevitable and unnecessary death. This should be kept in mind before patronizing those who are directly contributing to this escalating problem.
