*** Loudon Wainwright III, “History,” Charisma. Four years after his last album, Wainwright is more adept than ever at combining humor and pathos, sarcasm and sincerity all in the same song (i.e., “Hitting You,” about a fatherly swat given and instantly regretted). Family relations past and present are nothing new for him, yet he still elicits new smiles--and new winces--of recognition.
