Band Gets Long Johns for Inaugural Parade

WASHINGTON — Mayor Sharon Pratt Kelly handed out 150 pairs of long johns Friday to a District of Columbia school for its band’s inaugural strut down Pennsylvania Avenue.
The underwear was donated to Lemon G. Hine Junior High School by the J.E. Morgan Co.
A 1991 fire destroyed uniforms, sheet music and other items. Students raised money to rebuild the program but couldn’t afford long johns for the parade.
