Culver City : HUD Grant to Aid Disabled

Culver City will put most of the Community Development Block Grant money it expects to receive from the federal government during the 1993-94 program year toward making the city more accessible to people with disabilities.
Of the $392,601 in block grant funds the city hopes to get, the City Council voted last week to spend $264,341 on bringing city facilities into compliance with the 1990 Americans with Disabilities Act.
The city is formulating a list of projects designed to make city facilities and programs more accessible to the disabled, said grants coordinator Joan Kassan. Curb cuts may be on the list. The City Council must approve each project.
The remaining grant money will be allocated as follows: $49,500 for the staff position of coordinator of services to the disabled; $39,260 for administering the fund; $20,000 for automatic sliding doors at Veterans Memorial Auditorium; and $19,500 for equal-opportunity housing and water conservation programs.
