NFL, Rozelle, Officials and the Super Bowl

The Times and Thomas Bonk should be commended for the acknowledgment given to Norm Schachter (Jan. 26). It is a great honor to officiate a Super Bowl game and we as officials believe we are a very important part of it. Few officials get public recognition (unless they make a mistake).
Norm Schachter was a great official. But even more than that, Norm Schachter is a tremendous human being. Since retiring from active officiating, Norm has always come to the officials’ preseason rules study sessions and has always helped the younger officials.
