Falko Zandstra defeated world record-holder Johann Olav Koss of Norway in the 5,000 meters and took the lead halfway through the world championships at Hamar, Norway. Chinese sprint star Chen Song won the 500 meters, beating Aadne Soendraal of Norway and Rintje Ritsma and Zandstra, both of the Netherlands. With the 1,500 and 10,000 to be raced today, Zandstra had 78.386 points and Koss 78.914.
