Warner Bros. to Add 35 Retail Outlets

Warner Bros.’ retail division, which operates 21 stores that sell apparel, novelties and other items based on the studio’s movies, cartoon and television shows, says it plans to open an additional 35 outlets this year.

Warner Bros. Worldwide Retail, a Time Warner Inc. unit based in Burbank, said the new stores will include a 30,000-square-foot outlet in New York City. Overall, the company plans to open 30 stores in the United States, and five in the United Kingdom.

The company’s expansion follows the growing success of “theme” stores tied to well-known movie and TV characters. Walt Disney Co.’s retail unit also has enjoyed robust sales in recent years.
