The Marketing Game: “The Crying Game” is also getting attention for its marketing techniques. The Miramax release has been named best marketed film for the month of January by the Film Information Council. The Hollywood-based group, made up of movie marketing executives, chooses a different film for its Excellence in Film Marketing Award each month. Some have said that the hype about the romantic suspense film’s “secret,” a surprise in “The Crying Game” that Miramax has asked people not to disclose after seeing it, has been used as a marketing tool; Miramax executives deny that.
