1993 PREP PREVIEW / BOYS TENNIS : WOODBRIDGE

Coach: Joan Willett (seventh year).
1992: 16-4, 7-3 in league; finished third in Sea View and lost to Peninsula in the 4-A quarterfinals.
Key returners: Jon Blum, Jr.; Adam Call, Jr., up from junior varsity; Bud Duong, Jr.; Bobby Lee, Sr, should contend with Duong and Call for No. 1 singles position; Sam Peng, Sr., should play No. 1 doubles with Blum.
Key newcomers: A.J. Thoryk, Jr., will play No. 2 or No. 3 doubles; Yoshi Suzuki, So.
Outlook: Although Willett doesn’t have a legitimate star, she has plenty of talent and depth. Her three singles players are interchangeable, which should give her some flexibility against the better teams. Willett said her team could finish anywhere from first to fifth in league. “I really see us being competitive with University, but the league is so balanced,” Willett said. Woodbridge handled Newport Harbor, 15-3 and 16-2, last year. But Willett expects that to change. “Newport Harbor is the team to beat,” she said. Woodbridge handed University its only league loss in the past two years last season.
