Weiskopf, U.S. Team Win Going Away

SARASOTA, Fla. — Tom Weiskopf won the individual championship and the United States claimed the team title in the Chrysler Cup competition Sunday by defeating the International team by nine strokes.
Weiskopf, playing in his first Senior PGA Tour event since turning 50 in November, shot a three-under-par 69 for a 54-hole total of 14-under 202 to lead the United States to its sixth consecutive victory and seventh in eight years.
New Zealand’s Bob Charles shot a 71 and George Archer fired a 68 to tie for second place at 206, four strokes behind Weiskopf.
Chi Chi Rodriguez shot a 69 for fourth place at 208.
Weiskopf earned $55,000 as individual champion, and each member of the U.S. team won $25,000.
