OUTLOOK
Did any team in Orange County lose more to graduation than El Dorado? Probably not. The Golden Hawks were devastated. Shawn Holcomb was the league’s MVP and was a fourth-round draft pick of the Angels. Brian Loyd and Tyson DowDell were all-league and all-county selections. John Street was an all-leaguer. With those four leading the way, the Hawks advanced to the 5-A semifinals where they lost to Diamond Bar, 5-4. “We lost four quality guys, no doubt about it,” Gullotti said. “That was the majority of our offense and all of our pitching. How are we going to replace them? We’re not.” Osborne and Remala are the only returning starters, which means Gullotti is looking at an unpredictable first few weeks of the season. “We’re going to nurse the kids along,” he said. “We’ve got some depth, but it’s going to take some time.” He hopes the younger players gain experience, maturity and confidence. He figures El Dorado will be chasing league co-favorites Esperanza and Katella.
