On Egypt
In spite of various warnings, I spent a marvelous week in Egypt in November and did not feel at risk any of the time. Americans should realize that in an age of escalating travel costs, Egypt is one of the best bargains around. Meals are cheap, museums and temples cost about $3.30, and there are fantastic buys on jewelry, papyrus and just about everything imaginable. Egyptian guides are the most knowledgeable and accommodating you’ll find anywhere.
