Southeast Area : 2 Cities, Church Get State Grants for Recycling Efforts

The state Department of Conservation came to the Southeast area last week bearing grants for two cities and a church that have pledged help in the recycling effort.
Compton was awarded $40,500 to help start a curbside recycling program. A Compton church got $40,000 and the city of Whittier got $10,000, both for education programs designed to increase environmental and recycling awareness.
The Compton Samoan Seventh-day Adventist Church will create bilingual pamphlets on recycling, and Whittier plans to create a video on separating and disposing of recyclables.
The grants were part of the Conservation Department’s “March Through March” program that will eventually distribute $200,000 in grants throughout the state.
