49ers Face First NCAA Test Today

Cal State Long Beach makes its first appearance in 16 years in the NCAA Tournament today when it plays Illinois at the Huntsman Center on the University of Utah campus in Salt Lake City. The game starts at 11:45 a.m. and will be televised live on KCBS-TV, Channel 2.
Long Beach (22-9) earned its berth in the postseason tournament by winning the Big West Tournament last weekend at the Long Beach Arena. The 49ers defeated Cal State Fullerton, Nevada Las Vegas and defending champion New Mexico State.
Illinois (18-12) tied for third with 13th-ranked Iowa in the Big Ten, which does not hold a postseason tournament. The Fighting Illini lost four of their last five regular season games.
