A young boy was injured when he fell out of a tree Wednesday and impaled himself on a wrought-iron fence near his apartment complex.
A neighbor, who heard the boy scream for help, plucked him off the fence before realizing that part of a spiked fence pole had embedded in his stomach.
“I just lifted him off the fence and then I saw all the blood,” said the 25-year-old woman who helped the boy. “He had a real blank expression on his face after it happened.”
The woman, who declined to give her name, said she comforted the boy, while another neighbor called 911 for help.
The incident occurred about 5 p.m. on the 1800 block of Gramercy Avenue, police said. The boy, whose name and age were withheld by police, was transported to UCI Medical Center in Orange.
Police said the boy’s injuries were not life threatening.
Neighbors said the boy is about 8 years old. They said he was playing in the tree with several other children when he slipped and fell out of it, landing on the fence.
