The Gnatcatcher’s Disappearing Habitat and Related ‘Non-Issues’
- Share via
Would you like it if the government took your home for a construction project and, in exchange, gave you another home that is twice as big? However, the quality of the home construction may not be as good, nothing may work right, and the location may be less desirable. In addition, they would take your home now and give you the other at some unspecified time in the future--but no sooner than six years.
In the meanwhile, you’re on your own or homeless. Incidentally, you will also lose your livelihood and can no longer “bring home the bacon.” Would you like it or think it was a good deal? I doubt it. Would you stick around for the new house or leave the area?
Well, that’s what they plan to do to the gnatcatcher in the San Joaquin Hills tollway corridor. Do you think the birds will stick around waiting for their “new” homes?
