Fourth-seeded Richard Krajicek of the Netherlands and fifth-seeded Carlos Costa of Spain scored easy two-set victories in the Conde de Godo tournament at Barcelona.
Krajicek defeated Goran Prpic of Croatia, 6-4, 6-4, and Costa breezed by countryman Juan Alberto Viloca, 6-1, 6-1.
Pete Sampras beat Australian Jamie Morgan, 7-5, 6-3, at the $1.2-million Japan Open at Tokyo. The second-seeded Sampras fired 15 aces against Morgan’s 13 in the second-round match.
