One of the things that we’ve been trying to do at DWP is strengthen the family. Strong families are going to pay off for us in the end, especially at DWP, where we have generations working for us. Empowering opportunities for family is going to help us and society. It’s a shared responsibility for everyone.
The unfortunate thing is that (the family leave bill) won’t provide that opportunity for low-income employees. It is an option for families that are willing to make that sacrifice--to live on one income to spend time with their children.
I would hope that eventually (the plan) will be paid leave. When the economy gets better, I think, down the road, that will be something we’ll push for.
