World IN BRIEF : AFGHANISTAN : Islamic Government OKs Women on TV

Nearly a year after women were banished from the airwaves, Afghanistan’s Islamic government has allowed them to reappear on television. Viewers of state-run Afghan television were startled but delighted to see a young woman reading the news. Her head was covered with a traditional black Islamic veil. An Iranian movie followed showing the leading lady with all but her eyes covered.
