SURFING KATIN TEAM CHALLENGE : Deffenbaugh Wins Individual Title, Helps His Team to Championship

HUNTINGTON BEACH — Jeff Deffenbaugh of Huntington Beach won the individual title and was part of the winning team at the 14th Katin Team Challenge held Sunday in four- to six-foot waves near the Huntington Beach pier.

Deffenbaugh won $1,000 for the individual title and divided the $4,000 team prize with other Team Rusty members Dave Pena, Pat O’Connell, and Even Slater. The purse for the event was $20,000.

In the individual competition, Brian Jennings of La Jolla was second, Donovan Frankenreiter of Laguna Niguel third and Kirk Tice of Huntington Beach fourth.
