ANAHEIM : Command Post for Landslide to Close

Saying the need has passed, the city plans to close its Anaheim Hills landslide command post Thursday.
The command post--in a trailer in the Anaheim Memorial Medical Plaza parking lot--pulsed with activity in the weeks following the Jan. 18 onset of the slide, but the pace slowed to a crawl as the danger abated.
“Many people impacted by the landslide have returned home, reducing the need for immediate response by city officials,” Fire Chief Jeff Bowman said. “However, we will continue to have staff devoted to working with those people still in need.”
The city officials working on slide-related problems will be relocated to the Utility Service Center, 909 E. Vermont Ave., which is downtown. Their phone number is (714) 974-7377.
Officials said geologists are continuing to examine causes and long-range solutions for the 25-acre slide, which forced the evacuation of 46 families.
The slide caused $3.8-million damage to 30 homes and $1.2-million damage to sewer lines, roads and sidewalks, officials said.
