COLLEGE ROUNDUP : Banks’ Home Runs Lead Titans Past Loyola Marymount, 14-8

Tony Banks hit two three-run home runs and finished with seven runs batted in to lead Cal State Fullerton, ranked second in the nation by Baseball America, to a 14-8 victory over Loyola Marymount in a nonconference game Tuesday at Titan Field.
Bret Hemphill and D.C. Olsen also homered for Fullerton (26-9), which has won 18 of its last 20 games. Jeremy Carr added three hits, two RBIs, and two stolen bases for the Titans.
Pitcher Mark Holiday allowed one earned run in 2 2/3 innings of relief to earn the victory. Starter Jon Ward, a freshman from Huntington Beach High, struggled in 3 1/3 innings, allowing six hits, four walks, five earned runs and struck out four.
Banks’ three-run home run in the fifth gave the Titans an 8-7 lead. Against Loyola Marymount, Banks has three home runs and 11 RBIs, including a grand slam in a 12-4 Titan victory earlier this season.
Loyola Marymount is 15-23.
In Golden State Athletic Conference baseball:
Westmont 5, Christ College Irvine 2-- Dan Davis had two triples, a double, and scored a run for visiting CCI (10-19-2). Trevor Earle took the loss. Robert Clintworth had three hits, two runs scored, and drove in a run for Westmont (15-17).
In nonconference softball:
Cal Baptist 10-9, Pacific Christian 4-12--Cathy Bramanti went five for eight with two home runs and eight RBIs as host Pacific Christian earned a split. Bramanti and Laurie Dice hit back-to-back home runs in the third inning of the second game for Pacific Christian (12-20).
