OXNARD : Man Indicted in Trio of Bank Robberies

An Oxnard man was indicted Friday in connection with robberies of three banks in Oxnard, Port Hueneme and Camarillo, the FBI said.

In a separate case, another Oxnard man was sentenced Thursday to 2 1/2 years in prison and three years of supervised release after pleading guilty to federal bank robbery charges, officials announced Friday.

Richard Basil Bustamante, 49, was indicted by a federal grand jury in Los Angeles, officials said. No trial date has been set.

Bustamante was arrested after tipsters recognized him from surveillance pictures taken during a November robbery of an American Savings Bank branch in Oxnard, the FBI said.

He was indicted in that case and in the robberies of a Great Western Bank branch in Port Hueneme in November and at a Ventura County National Bank branch in Camarillo in December, officials said.

Bustamante had previously served a federal sentence for Ventura County bank robberies that occurred in the 1980s, officials said. A warrant for his arrest had been issued in August for parole violations, officials said.

Gary William Cameron, 36, pleaded guilty in U.S. District Court to robbing a Security Pacific Bank branch in Oxnard last October. He was arrested after a robbery at the same bank Nov. 6, but charges in that case were dropped, officials said.
