An Oxnard man was arrested on suspicion of murder after a 37-year-old man he shot in the leg bled to death, Oxnard police said Sunday.
Julio Escobar Gonzales, 19, was found hiding in a house in the 1800 block of Oneill Place next door to the location where the shooting occurred Saturday night. He was booked into Ventura County Jail and held on $255,000 bail.
Abel Rodriguez Arjon, of Oxnard, was shot one time in the leg with a sawed-off shotgun during a party held in the garage of a south Oxnard house, officials said.
“He had a shotgun wound to the upper right thigh that hit the femoral artery and he bled to death,” Senior Deputy Coroner Craig Stevens said. Investigators would not speculate on a motive for the shooting, which happened about 8:20 p.m. Saturday.
“According to witnesses, suspect Gonzales fired one time and then fled into the adjacent residence where he was found hiding in a furnace closet by the first officers on the scene,” said Sgt. Charles Dunham. Police said they recovered a sawed-off shotgun at the scene.
