2 Scenarios for El Toro Air Base
Am I the only one to have thought of this? If El Toro Marine Corps Air Station is to be closed (as a military dependent who uses its facilities regularly, I hope not), then I suggest you dash the plans to turn it into a commercial airport and use it for something far more practical and far more needful--a jail.
The Orange County supervisors have been looking for a jail site for over 10 years. Who wants it in their back yard? No one? Well, El Toro is the perfect location. It’s not far from the Orange County courthouses; it has acres of land with buildings that can be easily and inexpensively converted to jails; there are security gates, fences and undeveloped land (that should remain undeveloped surrounding the base), which will add to the security, and (it is) freeway accessible. It’s already there, folks. Are you reading this, supervisors?
