Gay Rights March on Washington
As someone who enthusiastically voted for Bill Clinton for President, I feel thoroughly disgusted by his non-appearance at the huge gay rights march in Washington.
Does Clinton really expect anyone to believe he didn’t appear because--surprise, surprise--previously scheduled commitments took him out of town for the weekend? If that’s the case, why didn’t he address the marchers via telephone like Ronald Reagan and George Bush used to do with anti-abortion activists?
No, it’s obvious that Clinton--though he may be working behind the scenes for gay rights--was fearful of the political damage that may have resulted if he had appeared openly with gay and lesbian activists.
