Opposition to Proposal for Card Club
The slick brochure received recently by Cypress residents speaks repeatedly about “The Derby Club” (11 times) and the “Los Alamitos Race Track Improvement Project” (three times), but mentions “card club” (uncapitalized) only once. Not until the Q and A page is the card club mentioned again.
I wonder why there is such hesitation to tell the people more openly that the Derby Club contains a card club. I also wonder why card gambling is identified merely as “another popular form of gambling.” I wonder what prompts Mr. Arnold to be so guarded in this matter.
If he has to be so judicious about telling the voters that “another popular form of gambling” is, in fact, a 24-hour card club, maybe his glowing promises deserve a second look. Maybe there is more information in the mailer than was intended.
