Second Opinion / COMMENT FROM OTHER MEDIA : NGAY MAI : Deport Immigrants Who Break the Law
- Share via
Tony Lam, the first Vietnamese councilman of Westminster, proposed at a recent meeting with Rep. Dana Rohrabacher (R-Huntington Beach) that Vietnamese immigrants who commit crimes be extradited in order to prevent gang problems in the Vietnamese youth community.
Not many people were surprised at Mr. Lam’s proposal. For many years, Mr. Lam has been the leading figure in the campaign to respect the law, to beautify and to clean up the Vietnamese community. In the Westminster City Council race, Mr. Lam was elected on a campaign for law and order.
Mr. Lam and Rep. Rohrabacher both wanted to expand this proposal to all other immigrants who settle in the United States.
Do Ngoc Yen, editor of Nguoi Viet, the largest-circulation newspaper in California, has also said that extradition is an effective measure to discourage those who want to commit a crime.
