Unsupervised 21-Month-Old Twins Drown in Family’s Whirlpool

LAGUNA NIGUEL — Infant twins drowned in their parents’ back-yard whirlpool after they were left unsupervised for a few minutes, authorities said Sunday.
David Lam and his twin sister, Diana Lam, 21 months old, were pronounced dead at Mission Hospital-Regional Medical Center.
The drowning occurred Saturday after an apparent miscommunication between the twins’ parents, Minh Lam and Constance Lam, and a live-in baby-sitter, each of whom thought the other was watching the children.
“All I can say was there was some misunderstanding among the adults and nobody was watching the twins,” said Ted Sullivan, a senior Orange County coroner’s investigator. “This is what happens in 99% of all drownings involving infants.”
