SIMI VALLEY : Parks Agency Starts Trail Cleanup Effort

The Rancho Simi Recreation and Park District is looking for organizations to take part in a new adopt-a-trail program to clean bike and equestrian trails along the Arroyo Simi.

“This is kind of a takeoff on the Caltrans Adopt-a-Highway program,” said Sharon Sea Hamilton, the district’s volunteer coordinator.

Groups that adopt a trail program would be responsible for regularly cleaning up litter and removing graffiti from one-block sections of the trails next to the city’s drainage channel, Hamilton said. In some areas, tree watering may be required, she said.

The groups would have signs posted in their adopted section of trail acknowledging their participation, Hamilton said. The volunteer groups would be responsible for supplying paint to remove graffiti when necessary, she said.

A paved pedestrian trail runs along the north side of the channel, while a dirt equestrian trail parallels the arroyo’s south side for three miles between Sycamore and Madera roads.
