Teledyne Unit Announces Layoffs: Teledyne Systems Co. in Woodland Hills said it laid off 59 workers, reducing its total work force at the division to 1,215. The unit of Century City-based Teledyne Inc. makes avionic systems for military aircraft and two years ago had about 1,800 workers, but has pared its employment because of declining defense spending. The subsidiary has also been involved in a series of legal setbacks for Teledyne, which have triggered a major review by the Pentagon.
