Joseph Shuldiner

On behalf of the commissioners, staff and residents of the Housing Authority of the City of Los Angeles (HACLA), I congratulate our executive director, Joseph Shuldiner, on his White House nomination to the position of assistant secretary for public and Indian housing in the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development.

Shuldiner was instrumental in transforming a troubled agency into a role model for large public housing authorities during his three-year tenure in Los Angeles.

I truly believe the appointment of Shuldiner to a key post in the Clinton Administration--and the achievements which led to such recognition--have been newsworthy. I must, therefore, extend a public apology to Joe and to our board for my failure in gaining Times coverage of these events.
