Michael Stich defeated Stefan Edberg, 6-2, 6-0, to lead Germany past Sweden, 2-1, and into the final of the World Team Cup at Duesseldorf, Germany.
Germany won the red group championship and will play the blue group winner, either the United States or Spain, for the championship on Sunday.
The top-seeded U.S. team and Spain, the defending champion, will play today.
Germany wrapped up its victory when Carl-Uwe Steeb defeated Magnus Larsson in the second singles match, 6-3, 6-4.
Stich and Patrick Kuehnen then lost what had become a meaningless doubles match to Edberg and Henrik Holm, 7-6, 6-1.

Italian Omar Camporese defeated top-seeded Wayne Ferreira of South Africa to join fourth-seeded Russian Andrei Cherkasov in the semifinals of the Muratti Time ATP tournament at Bologna, Italy.
The unseeded Camporese defeated Ferreira, 6-3, 6-1. Cherkasov advanced with a 6-7 (7-2), 6-4, 6-1 victory over sixth-seeded Franco Davin of Argentina.

Top-seeded Jana Novotna of the Czech Republic, Sandrine Testud of France and Naoko Sawamatsu and Mana Endo of Japan reached the semifinals of the Strasbourg Open in France.
