GRANADA HILLS : Surveillance Helps Convict 2 Vandals

As a result of a surveillance operation by citizens working in conjunction with the Los Angeles Police Department, two men have been convicted of shooting out windows along Chatsworth Street in Granada Hills, prosecutors announced Monday.
Sean Reinert, 20, of Granada Hills and James Bellew, 19, of Chatsworth were sentenced Friday to four months in County Jail after no-contest pleas to several counts of misdemeanor vandalism.
Reinert was spotted March 10 using a pellet gun to shoot out store windows by a volunteer team organized to curb vandalism in the area, said Deputy City Atty. Paula Zamacona.
He was arrested when the surveillance team notified a waiting LAPD patrol car. Reinert pleaded no contest to three counts of vandalism.
Bellew was later arrested. He pleaded no contest to two counts of vandalism.
Both men are scheduled to surrender to San Fernando Municipal Judge John Gunn on June 21. At that time, Gunn will conduct a hearing to determine how much the men should pay to victims who lost windows in the shooting spree.
