The Philadelphia Flyers hired Terry Simpson to replace Bill Dineen as coach on Monday. Dineen will remain with the club as a scout.
Simpson, 49, was an assistant with the Winnipeg Jets the past three seasons and is a former coach of the New York Islanders.
Dineen, 60, had coached the Flyers since December of 1991.
Simpson succeeded Al Arbour as coach of the Islanders in 1986-87. Simpson’s team made it to the Patrick Division finals in his first season, but lost to the Flyers in seven games.
